Did you know that Disney's Magnolia Golf Course features FiberBuilt mats at the driving range? These high-quality mats replace traditional thin, firm practice surfaces and are positioned at the rear of the range hitting area. The facility uses them during inclement weather and beginning at 1 pm daily. Before 1 pm, golfers practice on the natural grass range. The purpose involves providing guests with realistic practice conditions while protecting the natural grass area through reduced use. The mats accommodate both right and left-handed golfers and feature adjustable tees. A key distinction exists between these mats and standard practice surfaces. Unlike typical practice mats with hard, thin surfaces requiring altered swing mechanics to "pick" balls off with irons and wedges, the grass-like FiberBuilt material enables golfers to "actually hit down on the balls and use a normal swing motion."
Today, September 10, 2019 would have been Mr. Arnold Palmer's 90th birthday, and there is not a day since his passing in 2016 that we don't miss his presence as our mentor, supporter, and friend to our company and to Walt Disney World Golf, which has been operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management since September 2011. At 7:00 am today, in Mr. Palmer's honor, we participated in a ceremonial tee shot at our golf facilities with our esteemed guest, Goofy! We welcomed Goofy this morning to Disney's Magnolia Golf Course to participate in the ceremonial tee shot, to further recognize and affirm "the strong bond and association that the Walt Disney World Resort and Walt Disney World Golf have with Mr. Palmer and his legacy." We continue to work to uphold the honor and traditions of the game that are synonymous with the Palmer name and to be a good friend and partner to all of our guests. Our acknowledgement of this occasion was far from the only celebration of Mr. Palmer's life and legacy experienced on Tuesday. In his memory, and for what he achieved through his career as a professional sportsman, and throughout his life, a ceremonial tee shot was also orchestrated at both of his home courses, Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club and Lodge here in Orlando, Florida, as well as Latrobe Country Club, Pennsylvania. In addition, the Empire State Building in New York city opted to light up their magnificent structure in the colors of Mr. Palmer's iconic umbrella logo, Red, Yellow, White, and Green. Even after his passing, Mr. Palmer continues to have impact on many individuals' lives through the philanthropic efforts of the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation. Fitting tributes to "A Life Well Played!!" We look forward to welcoming you and your guests to the "Happiest Place on TURF!"
Walt Disney World Golf, managed by Arnold Palmer Golf Management, participated in Patriot Golf Day 2019 during Labor Day Weekend (August 31 - September 2). The initiative supported Folds of Honor, a 501(c)(3) organization established in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, an F-16 Fighter Pilot. Folds of Honor's stated purpose: "empower military families by providing educational scholarships to the children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation." The organization noted that "over 87% do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance" among affected dependents from Iraq and Afghanistan deployments. The charity provides "$5000 increments" annually and assists with private education funding. By 2019, Folds of Honor had distributed approximately 20,000 scholarships since its founding. During the Labor Day Weekend, Arnold Palmer Golf Management contributed $2.00 per golf round to support the organization.

FootGolf is "a precision sport, combining characteristics of both golf and soccer." Players kick a soccer ball from tee boxes toward a 21-inch diameter cup marked by an orange flag, aiming to complete each hole in as few kicks as possible. The sport features "a mix of par 3, 4 and 5 holes" with typical 9-hole rounds completed by foursomes in under 90 minutes. Disney's Oak Trail Golf Course hosts the certified American FootGolf League course, opened in early 2018. FootGolf is available after 2:30 pm on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Players may bring their own soccer ball or use provided equipment. Dress code follows regular golf standards with turf shoes or athletic footwear. Frequent players can join the complimentary FootGolf Kicker's Club, earning a free round after five paid rounds within 90 days. Groups interested in hosting events -- birthday parties, reunions, or team-building activities -- can contact sales manager Anna Lazorchak.
High school golfers around the nation are dreaming about winning a national championship in the first-ever High School National Invitational, so it should come as no surprise that organizers of the tournament decided to stage it at the place where dreams come true -- Walt Disney World Resort. The quest for a magical national golf title happens June 27-28 at Disney's famed Magnolia and Palm golf courses -- the same courses that have hosted some of the biggest names in professional golf over the years. The boys will play at Disney while the girls will compete at nearby Falcon's Fire Golf Club. More than 300 young golfers are expected to compete during the two-day event. Who knows? One of these aspiring golfers might eventually compete in a PGA or LPGA Tour event one day. If you want to catch them before they might become famous, there's no charge for admission or parking at this tournament. And if you get the itch to play while you're out there, then swing by our pro shop to book a tee time on any of our four courses. Or you can call 407-WDW-GOLF (939-4653) or go to www.golfwdw.com. Give it a try and see if you can make your golf dreams come true, too!
